The core aspects of the Middle Years Program (MYP) are the Key Concepts and connecting classroom learning to the real world. The Key Concepts are used as lenses through which the California State standards and Common Core standards are taught. Students use the concepts to explore the curriculum as well as make connections between the subjects they are studying.
Gives students the tools to explore the ways in which they learn best. Students develop ways to organize their time and study skills. These skills make learning easier.
Involvement in one's community is emphasized through the yearly 10 hour community service requirement. Students are asked to get involved in their community, whether at Borel, in the local community, or through a San Mateo organization. Students then reflect on their contribution through a community service time card.
