Miranda M. Bosley Arts and Music Fund

The Miranda M. Bosley Arts and Music Fund was established in the Fall of 2010 after the passing of Miranda M. Bosley, a 7th grade student at Borel Middle School.  Since Miranda did not define herself as having cancer, her family wanted to keep Miranda’s legacy alive for each of us and the community as a whole, given she lived twelve, impactful beyond her age, amazing years.  Miranda participated in both the Art and Music programs at Borel.  She also participated in Drama as an avid supporter in the audience.

 You may ask, “What did the fund support?”  - all one time purchases.  Ongoing “What does the fund support?”

 

Art:

Miranda M. Bosley Art Award for a graduating 8th grader.  Ms. Jordan Rick will make the decision.  The recipient should exhibit “Miranda like” characteristics – patience, perseverance, conviction, and determination to follow one’s heart. 
One time purchase of eco-friendly plaque to be hung in the Borel Office with yearly award recipient’s name. Can you find it when you pass by?  Think Miranda Blue.
One time purchase of Kiln Parts in 2011-2012 since Miranda LOVED pottery. Can you find some of her broken pieces on the Class of 2012 mural? Hint:  Penguins
One time purchase of Multicultural Art Series of DVDs, posters, and lessons since former art teachers Ms. Vena Geasa and Mrs. Carol Bertolina, so wanted it, and sometimes Miranda would just say yes to support anothers passion.
One time purchase of the Class of 2012 Mural (Miranda’s graduating 8th grade class).  This is installed on the wall outside of the library.  Please come by, see, and touch it!  We encourage you to ask your son or daughter about what it means to them.
 

Drama:

Two Miranda M. Bosley Drama Camp Scholarships (Current 6th or 7th Grader).  The decision is made by Ms. Alyssa Goldrath based on a student essay, financial need, and dedication.
A Miranda M. Bosley Dance Scholarship (Current 6th or 7th Grader) for one year at Dance Arts Center.  The decision is made by Ms. Alyssa Goldrath. 
Sponsoring up to 3 students to attend a local play, determined  by Ms. Alyssa Goldrath.
Miranda M. Bosley Drama Award for graduating 8th grader.  Ms. Alyssa Goldrath will make the decision.  The recipient should exhibit “Miranda like” characteristics – patience, perseverance, conviction, and determination to follow one’s heart.

Music:

A Miranda M. Bosley Music Camp Scholarship (Current 6th or 7th Grader).  The decision is made by Ms. Helene Grotans based on a student essay, financial need, and dedication.
Miranda M. Bosley Music Award for graduating 8th grader.  Ms. Helene Grotans will make the decision.  The recipient should exhibit “Miranda like” characteristics – patience, perseverance, conviction, and determination to follow one’s heart.
One time purchase of eco-friendly plaque to be hung in the Borel Office with yearly award recipient’s name.   Can you find it when you pass by?  Think Miranda Blue.
One time purchase of eco-friendly plaque to be hung in the Music Room with Camp recipient’s name.
 

The only way we can keep this fund perpetual is with your donation. Our goal is $4500 per year and of course no amount is too small or too large, but know greatly appreciated.   If you would like to contribute, please send checks payable to Borel Middle School: Miranda M. Bosley Fund.  Checks may be dropped off at the office or mailed to Borel Middle School, Attn:  Miranda M. Bosley Art and Music Fund, 425 Barneson Ave., San Mateo, CA 94402.  Your donations are tax deductible.  Once your donation is received, a letter from Borel Principal Kenyetta Cook with the appropriate tax id number will be sent.
